A church usher is a person who helps ensure a smoothly running church service and who ministers to people in a variety of practical ways. The specific responsibilities of an usher vary, but his or her duties usually include some or all of the following:
- Greeting people as they arrive for the service
- Assisting people with special needs
- Seating guests.
- Collecting the tithes and offering.
- Keeping order at the entrance of the sanctuary
- Distributing bulletins and service programs
- Providing security
- Administering emergency procedures
